Fears & Phobias
They can manifest as physical and/or emotional symptoms and create anxiety. Some of the symptoms of fears and phobias can be: rapid heart beat, sweaty palms, shallow breathing, gasping for air, turning red, unable to move, shaking uncontrollably, unable to think, and avoidance of places where the anxiety fear response has occurred.
Fears and phobias stop you from enjoying life and can be alleviated in just a few sessions.
First we create the positive outcome (being ok in the presence of the phobia producing situation) and second look at the source of the fear or phobia and neutralize it.
Types of fears and phobias successfully treated with hypnosis:
- Agoraphobia (fear of going outside)
- Animals (mice, rats, dogs, etc.)
- Bugs (spiders, cockroaches)
- Snakes and other reptiles (all snakes caged or not, iguanas, lizards)
- Dental Fears (going to the dentist or anticipation of pain)
- Driving (the freeway, over or under bridges, in the mountains)
- Flying (airplanes all sizes, short flights and long ones)
- Food (foods that have made you sick or that you have an aversion to)

“For the last 30 years, I could not sit in the dental chair. I would walk out even with Novocain in my mouth–not kidding,and a dentist actually asked me NOT to return to his office! My skin would crawl the minute I sat down. I would get so hot that one time I even took off my blouse under the paper bib. I also could not sit in a movie theater and I would come in when the movie started and ONLY if my husband got an aisle seat (surprisingly, elevators did not affect me???). The whole claustrophobic thing was so impacting my life. I could not take it anymore, so 3 years ago I went to Laurie Miller, a Clinical Hypnotherapist, recommended by her client and a friend of mine. With Laurie’s help I found out that I am NOT afraid of dentists per se, not the Novocain, not the drilling etc. Finally figured out that I could not sit in those little cubicles that most of them have–NO WINDOWS. Anyway, the hypno lady gave me suggestions to calm me, taught me some self hypnosis to practice while I was in the chair, and it has been a miracle. I can go to a dentist and even sit in the middle of the row of a movie. It is truly a miracle, and I only went 3 times about 3 years ago.
I did a “touch up” about 6 months ago. This time, I went for 2 sessions, for dieting & exercising purposes. Wow, it has really helped. I have almost quit eating chips (it’s under control), be it potato, tortilla, or pita. Laurie suggested trying broccoli to munch on, which I told her that I had never touched in almost my whole life. Well it worked and I am munching broccoli instead of the chips–for a crunchy taste. We also work on exercise, and I walk now almost every morning. She suggested that when I look at my Nike shoes, I think about walking and I do!
Bottom line–I never, ever thought I could be hypnotized. I am not the most trusting person by nature– but it is the BEST investment I ever made for myself. I usually don’t give advice (even though my sons do not agree !!) but it sure would be worth a try. It changed my life.”

“I wanted to let you know how the hypnotherapy worked for Kathryn’s fear of flying. We took her to college last week so I was with her on two flights. She used her I-Pod (she had downloaded your tape onto it) on the takeoff. Within about a minute she was in a light sleep. She woke up about 10 minutes later relaxed and smiling. On our descent, she did not even use it and chatted with me the whole way down. This happened on the next flight as well.
