Mind/Body Connection! Stay In Touch!

Issue 22
August 2005

Laurie’s Notes

Dear Clients,

I have always advocated working with the mind as well as with the body in any healing modality. The two are intimately connected and an imbalance between these two often causes stress and even disease.

On the back of this newsletter, you will find an announcement for a workshop that deals with releasing body stress and trauma through an easy to learn exercise. David Bercelli, creator of TRE, trauma releasing exercises, is a fantastic speaker who helps us understand this mind/body link. Where I guide my clients through the mind to create change in the body (stop smoking, releasing weight, anxiety, bad habits), David teaches this powerful releasing method to let go of stored stress in the body, bringing clarity and balance to the mind! See you there!

Mind/Body Connection! Stay in Touch!

Your body responds to the way you think, feel and act. This is often called the "mind/body connection". When you are stressed, anxious or upset, your body tries to tell you that something isn't right. For example, high blood pressure or a stomach ulcer might develop after a particularly stressful event, such as the death of a loved one. The following may be physical signs that your emotional health is out of balance:

  • Back Pain
  • Change in Appetite
  • Chest Pain
  • Constipation or Diarrhea
  • Dry Mouth
  • Extreme Tiredness
  • General Aches & Pains
  • Headaches
  • High Blood Pressure
  • Insomnia (Sleeplessness)
  • LIghtheadedness
  • Palpitations (Heart racing)
  • Sexual Problems
  • Shortness of Breath
  • Stiff Neck
  • Sweating
  • Upset Stomach
  • Weight Gain or Loss

Poor emotional health can weaken your body's immune system, making you more likely to get colds and other infections during emotionally difficult times. Also, when you are feeling stressed, anxious or upset, you may not take care of your health as well as you should. You may not feel like exercising, eating nutritious foods or taking medicine that your doctor prescribes. Some people abuse alcohol, tobacco or other drugs to try to make themselves feel better.

What is Good Emotional Health?

People with good emotional health are aware of their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. They have learned healthy ways to cope with the stress and problems that are a normal part of life. They feel good about themselves and have healthy relationships.

WARNING!

"Within 12 months of email and cell phones becoming hard-wired into our lives -- creating a predominant, always-on, 24/7/365 work culture -- US health care costs shot upward. Dis-ease in personal fulfillment and work/life balance foreshadows their eventual physical disease."
